A school's timings change more often than people expect: exams, half-days, sports day, annual day, and in many states, separate summer and winter timings. Each change is a chance for the bell to ring at the wrong time.
Step 1: List every timetable you need
Before the term starts, write down each variant:
- Regular day
- Saturday / short day
- Exam days (morning and afternoon sessions, if any)
- Half day
- Events — sports day, annual day, PTA meeting
- Seasonal timings, if your state changes school hours between summer and winter
Step 2: Save each one as a named schedule
Program each variant once and give it a clear name ("Exam – morning", "Winter timings"). Switching then becomes a matter of choosing the schedule, not re-entering times. Our timetable templates are a starting point.
Step 3: Switch from wherever you are
With a basic timer, every change means standing at the device and pressing buttons. With a cloud-programmable bell, staff switch or edit the schedule from a web browser or mobile app — from the staff room, or from home the evening before.
Step 4: Check the day before
- Confirm tomorrow's schedule is the right one.
- For exams, confirm the announcement bells ("30 minutes remaining").
- After a long holiday or power cut, check the clock and schedule.
Step 5: Keep one person responsible
Give one staff member ownership of the bell schedule, with a written copy of every approved timetable. Fewer editors means fewer surprises.
