Most schools never add up what their bell really costs. Count the staff hours, the outside speakers and the small daily disruptions, and the total is larger than the price of an automatic system many times over.
The problem: hidden costs every year
- Staff time. Someone has to watch the clock and ring the bell eight to ten times a day, every working day. That person cannot do anything else at those moments.
- Announcements. Teachers and office staff stop work to read notices, prayers and thoughts of the day over the P.A.
- Guest speakers. Value education, spoken English, health awareness and general knowledge sessions often need paid resource persons from outside the syllabus.
- Lost minutes. A late bell steals minutes from every class. Over a year, that adds up to days of teaching time.
- Repairs and visits. Old bell timers need a technician every time the timetable changes.
